home Renting or Buying a house, condo or Apartment.

One of the things I like about living here is the low cost of putting a roof over my head. Personally I live in a house that only cost 7,000 Baht a month. The house I live in is a two bedroom two bathroom with a small yard in a gated village. As I have been living in this house for 5 years I think I have a better deal than most pattaya house for rentpeople would get because my rent has never gone up in that time. If you look hard enough you should be able to land a deal as good as I have or maybe even better. The way I found my place was I picked an area I thought I would like then I moved into a temporary place to live and then just looked around from there. I prefer to get on the motor bike and cruse around looking for, "for rent" signs and call the numbers on the signs. If you don't do motorbike well then walking is just fine, and it is good exercise. Also ask your friends many times they will know of a place just waiting for you. There are many free publications that have rentals listed in them, these are a great way to look as you can cover allot of ground in a short period of time. Then there is the internet with lots of pictures and better descriptions than in the publications. I have posted below links to real estate websites that may help get you started. One thing I have found here in Pattaya is that sometimes the prices can be crazy, I mean what some people think their property is worth is just crazy, so beware, and do your homework.

The house pictured above would probably rent from 18,000 to 33,000 baht, nicer and larger than mine.

A few tips for you;

  • Use an agent to help you find just that right place, their services can be invaluable in new surroundings like Pattaya. If you know where you want to live and have the means to look around then you could save a little by doing it your self.
  • Bring a Thai friend to help you negotiate. ;=)
  • Try to call signs that are written in Thai, prices tend to be lower if you are looking on your own..
  • Avoid places near the tourist areas. A nice nolvety to be close to the action at first but soon gets old. You will also pay a premium.

Below is a summary of what you might pay
Studio without aircon / with aircon....... very, very basic diggs 2,000 to 4,000 / 2,500 to 4,500
